Monakai (James Omo) is a visionary electronic music producer and DJ with over 25 years of experience shaping the San Francisco Bay Area's underground scene. From pioneering drum & bass residencies to chart-topping independent releases, Monakai continues to push boundaries in bass music.
As founder of MNKY Productions (est. 2000), he launched Club MNKY in San Francisco and Gorilla Thursdays in Concord, hosting worldwide talent while showcasing the Bay Area's biggest names in electronic dance music and credited for bringing the SF underground music scene into the mainstream spotlight.
Pioneering the evolution and adoption of Dubstep and Bass Music across the west coast from 2005-2008 as DJ held residencies in San Francisco and across the east Bay and performing at the largest electronic music events and EDM Festivals on the west coast such as Lovefest, LovEvolution, Sac Summer Music Festival and countless underground events from Reno NV to Los Angeles CA and releasing his first studio album in january of 2011 titled "DubStep 2011" Passionate about Sub frequency Bass as seen in his performances as well as his work which spans drum & bass, dubstep, house, techno, and trance.
Now in 2025-2026, Monakai is on a prolific run with 20+ new releases, including the highly anticipated "2026 State Of Bass EP," bringing fresh energy to the global electronic music community.
